Like his father, Dr. Fred, Dr. Owens, has a long history of dedication to the specific field of otology/neurotology. After completing his ear, nose and throat residency training at West Virginia University Hospitals, Dr. Owens completed a competitive two-year fellowship at the prestigious House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles. During his fellowship, Dr. Owens was fortunate to be able to perform hundreds of surgeries under the direct tutelage of several of the most knowledgeable ear surgeons in the country. Returning to Dallas in 1999, Dr. Owens entered practice with his father Fred D. Owens, M.D., who at that time had served the Metroplex and North Texas region for over 26 years, caring for patients with complex ear conditions.
Since 1999, Dr. Owens has seen thousands of patients with complex ear conditions and performs over 700 ear surgeries annually. His practice is limited to and focused on patients with problems related to the ear. He instructs ear, nose, and throat resident physicians annually in ear surgery techniques through specialized courses sponsored by the Dallas Foundation of Otology, and he has provided this training for over 340 young ear surgeons. He lectures annually at the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery meetings on surgical management of ear disease. He has been a guest professor internationally at meetings and instructional courses in Mexico, Europe, and Latin America.
Dr. Owens has authored several scientific articles in the medical literature regarding ear disease, and he has worked with surgical prosthesis companies to develop new and improved prostheses for hearing reconstruction. He serves as a member of the Board of the Hearing School of the Southwest and the Dallas Foundation of Otology. He is a past president of the Texas Academy of Otolaryngology.
Dr. Owens has a proven track record of dedication to providing expert, specialized care for your hearing and balance conditions.
