Allergy Testing

Watch the following video of Dr. Booth being interviewed about allergy treatment. Click here

We require that you have blood work done prior to your scheduled test date. The blood work must be completed at least 48 hours prior to your test date.

The testing technique used in our office is called Intradermal Dilution Titration. The test is performed by injecting a small amount of antigen on the upper portion of your arms. Please wear a short sleeved shirt on the day of testing. The allergy test takes approximately two hours to complete. If the test is positive, you will be advised to receive weekly allergy injections to desensitize your body.

You may eat breakfast or lunch on the date of testing but we do ask that you have NO CAFFEINE on the day of testing.

Some medications affect the results of allergy testing and must be discontinued prior to the scheduled testing date:

Allegra, Claratin, Zyrtec and Clarinex are long-lasting antihistimines that must be discontinued 3 weeks prior to your scheduled test date.

Benadryl and other anithistimes must be discontinued 3 days proir to your scheduled test date.

TylenolPM or AdvilPM must be discontinued 3 days proir to your scheduled test date.

Tranquilizers and antidepressants must be discontinued 3 days proir to your scheduled test date.

Beta Blocker blood pressure medication must be discontinued prior to allergy testing and cannot be resumed while receiving allergy injections.

If you are currently taking blood pressure medication and are not sure if it is a Beta Blocker, please contact your physician or pharmacist to make that determination. There are several other forms of blood pressure medications that are acceptable such as Ace Inhibitors and Calcium Channel Blockers.

If you are currently using eye drops for glaucoma, please make sure these are not Beta Blockers. These must be discontinued prior to the scheduled test date.
